Laser & Premium Cataract Surgery in Brooklyn

Personalized, Top Quality Eye Care in Brooklyn

Cataracts affect nearly everyone eventually, gradually clouding the eye's natural lens until vision turns dim, blurry, or hazy. At our Brooklyn office, we offer advanced laser-assisted cataract surgery paired with premium lens options, so patients can regain clear vision without settling for a one-size-fits-all approach.

Dr. Neelofar Ghaznawi leads our Brooklyn office and brings deep experience in cataract and corneal surgery to every procedure. Our team combines the latest laser technology with a personalized lens selection process, so your treatment plan reflects your specific eyes, your daily routine, and your vision goals.

What Are Cataracts?

A cataract develops when the eye’s natural lens grows cloudy, usually as part of the aging process. Common signs include blurry vision, glare or halos around lights, fading colors, and more frequent changes to your glasses prescription.

Cataracts progress gradually, and early on, a stronger glasses prescription or brighter lighting may be enough. Once they start interfering with daily life, from reading to driving at night, surgery becomes the most effective way to restore clear vision.

Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery

During laser-assisted cataract surgery, a femtosecond laser takes over several key steps that are traditionally done by hand, adding a level of consistency that’s hard to match manually. The laser can reshape small incisions in the cornea to help reduce astigmatism as part of the same procedure. It also creates a precisely sized, perfectly round opening for the new lens, and it softens the cloudy lens beforehand, so less ultrasound energy is needed to remove it. That combination can mean reduced swelling and a quicker return to clear vision.

Premium IOL Options

Every cataract procedure includes replacing the clouded natural lens with an intraocular lens, or IOL. Standard IOLs are monofocal: they’re set for one fixed distance, usually straight ahead, and insurance usually covers them. Most patients pair a standard IOL with a separate pair of reading glasses afterward.

For patients who want more freedom from glasses, premium IOLs offer additional options. Toric lenses are designed to correct astigmatism. Multifocal and extended-depth-of-focus lenses are designed to sharpen vision at more than one distance, so you rely less on reading glasses day to day. We’ll walk you through the full range of premium IOLs during your consultation to find the lens that fits your presbyopia and lifestyle needs.

Secondary Cataracts & YAG Laser

It’s not uncommon for vision to blur again at some point after cataract surgery, sometimes years down the road. This is often labeled a secondary cataract, though the original cataract has not actually returned. What’s really happening is that the membrane holding your new lens in place, called the posterior capsule, has clouded over. A brief in-office YAG laser treatment opens up that membrane and typically restores sharp vision within minutes.

The Procedure & Recovery

The procedure itself is quick: most patients are in and out within 30 minutes per eye, and you’ll go home the same day. After numbing eye drops and, if needed, a mild sedative, your surgeon creates a tiny opening, removes the clouded lens, and places the new IOL through that same small entry point. In most cases, this incision seals on its own, without stitches.

Many patients notice clearer vision within a day or two, though full healing takes several weeks. If both eyes need treatment, we generally space the two procedures a week or two apart, which keeps one eye seeing well while the other recovers.
