Ellex Medical Laser

What is it?

The Tango laser is manufactured by Ellex, a leading name in the field of ophthalmic equipment and superior ophthalmic lasers. Tango incorporates Ellex’s proprietary Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) technology and YAG mode giving excellent results every time.

SLT is an advanced, non-thermal, nanosecond laser treatment that can reduce intraocular pressure as effectively as medications.

How does it work?
  • 1

SLT works by applying selective photothermolysis, a highly precise procedure that can target tissues in a specific area. The pigmented trabecular meshwork cells in your eyes are destroyed with laser, which stimulates the release of proteins and chemicals. This improves the circulation of the eye fluid or aqueous humor without any damage.

The YAG laser gives off rapid and tiny bursts of energy. A special contact lens is used to focus the laser precisely. The laser passes through your eyes to reduce glare and improve vision. The Laser Peripheral Iridotomy, used in angle-closure glaucoma, allows the aqueous to pass by, making small holes in the iris.

What are its uses?

The SLT technology is clinically proven as first-line therapy for glaucoma. It is used to manage intraocular pressure (IOP) in such cases. It is also used to estimate the location of eye pathology.

YAG mode is used to perform capsulotomies and iridotomies. Capsulotomy involves removing the eye’s opaque lens without damaging the capsular bag it is found in. This procedure is a part of cataract surgery.

What to expect while undergoing the test with the machine?

The procedure takes approximately 10 minutes.

You will be asked to be seated in front of the Tango laser. Anesthetic drops will be placed in your eye. A special lens will be placed on the eye. Some stinging or tingling sensations may be felt during the procedure. It is also completely natural to see bright flashes of light.

Are there any side effects?
Vision may be blurred. Mild eye irritation may also be experienced. However, all these side effects are temporary.

What are the advantages?

Your ophthalmologist will be able to perform diagnostic tests faster with Tango, delivering maximum accuracy and optimal efficiency.

The SLT technology is gentle and non-invasive. It does not burn or cause scar tissues, unlike other laser procedures. SLT is an excellent alternative to glaucoma eye drops. By effectively reducing eye pressure, it can reduce the lifestyle and financial burden of glaucoma.

The YAG mode significantly decreases the risk of lens pitting, a commonly encountered lens damage with laser procedures.

How to prepare for the test?
You can eat and drink as you like. Continue taking all other medications, including your glaucoma eye drops. If SLT is performed on both eyes, have someone drive you home after the procedure.
